Bass clef pulls in Macassar ebony, polished brass and petrified stone cabs. The brass is both mortised into the red oak stiles as well as the back of the bass clef pulls. Solid black cherry cabinet made as a wedding present for my eldest son Tobe and daughter-in-law Donna. The light colour belies the newness of the work. Cherry is referred to as “black cherry”, since it is the only dark wood to darken further. All dark woods lighten, with light woods darkening. It’s simply the oxidation process at work – 2002.

Antiqued finish ‘keyhole’ footstool/bench in eastern white poplar + hard maple dowels. Poplar is not a commercial species but is an excellent wood for millwork and furniture due to its strength and stability. Woodworkers dislike it because it is usually fuzzy to finish. – 2017.
